Rescue Societies and Pet Organizations
I feel that rescue societies and certain pet organizations deserve their own page. I have a soft place in my heart for stray pets. All of my pets have always been rescued in some way or another. There are so many unwanted pets out there and these amazing volunteer run groups help these animals receive medical care, food, shelter, and eventually a forever home. Some groups provide shelters and some are breed specific organizations who aid in the re-homing pets that are in need of new homes. You can help too! Have your pet spayed or neutered and have them identified by tags, tattoos, or microchip. You can donate funds, supplies, your time or adopt one of their wonderful pets. Listed below are some very worthy organizations. Please consider rescue when looking to bring a new pet into the home.
A DOG'S PRAYER
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

Whiskers Cat Rescue (Red Deer)
Whiskers has help out community out several times by taking cats and kittens that have been in care here at the kennels for months. They are associated with Petsmart Charities and work with Petsmart to showcase their adoptable pets in their stores. Please consider supporting Whiskers Rescue.
Another great organization that has helped this community out by taking cats that I have not been able to home. Although they are located in Calgary they have been more than happy to help out when there is an overload of cats.
The Calgary Humane Society has been instrumental and key to helping place some of the dogs and cats that are unclaimed from here. Their staff and volunteers have gone over and above by doing a lot of the driving to transfer over pets. Rescue is a tight knit community and it is greatly appreciated when other organizations can help out the smaller remote ones.
Check this wonderful organization called Beagle Paws. This group is Canada wide and is breed specific to Beagles. They have many provincial chapters across Canada who are very eager to help Beagles in need.
FROM THEIR WEBSITE:
Founded in St. John’s, Newfoundland it has now grown to be Canada’s largest Beagle Rescue Organization, with an established volunteer base in British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Our non-profit registered charity relies on the support of dedicated volunteers all over Canada to help save abandoned and neglected Beagles on a daily basis.
Another great totally volunteer driven organization is called Animal Rescue Transfer System or A.R.T.S. This group is dedicated to help with the transport of pets in need to get to shelters, temporary foster homes or permanent homes. It sometimes takes an entire team to get a pet to where he or she needs to go. Not only do they help transport animals across Canada but they are also a valuable networking resource for shelters to aid in finding alternative environments to those pets who would otherwise met an untimely demise.
This fantastic team of flight attendants and pilots dedicate their time, resources, and skills to ensure the safe long distance travel by airplane that some pets must make in efforts to get them to other environments. Thinking outside the box is what makes these volunteers unique as they are able to transport pets safely and with less stress to greater destinations which in most cases means a permanent home. This is in partnership with A.R.T.S
